Who We Are
Our mission, as God’s Word Baptist Church, is to please our Lord by honoring and glorifying Him through the testimony of our witness of the great things God has done for us, to a lost and dying world, both in our community of Ridgefield and abroad, for the purpose of salvation, and to our bothers and sisters in Christ, His body, for the purpose of spiritual growth and maturity.
What We Believe
Jesus Christ – We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, Mary, in order that He might redeem sinful men (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; Luke 1:35; John 1:1-2, 14; II Corinthians 5:19-21; Galatians 4:4-5; Philippians 2:5-8). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a subsitutionary sacrifice; and, that our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead (Acts 2:18-36; Romans 3:24-25; I Peter 2:24; Ephesians 1:7; I Peter 1:3-5). We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven, and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of the Intercessor, and Advocate (Acts 1:9-10; Hebrews 9:24; Hebrews 7:25; Romans 8:34; I John 2:1-2).
Salvation – Because man is sinful (Romans 3:23), he needs a Savior to save him from death (Romans 6:23), and God, not willing that any should perish (II Peter 3:9), and because He loves us (John 3:16; Romans 5:8), sent the Lord Jesus Christ to take the punishment for man’s sin so that man may have eternal life. We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins. Salvation cannot be bought, earned, or merited by good works; it can only be received from God through His Son (Romans 10:9-10 and 13; John 1:12; Ephesians 1:7; Ephesians 2:8-10; I Peter 1:18-19; I John 1:9).
The Bible – We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the verbally and plenary inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible, and God-breathed, and, therefore, are the final authority and standard for all aspects of faith and life. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament are the complete and divine revelation of God to man. This Bible is preserved for man without error in the King James Authorized Version (Psalm 12:6-7; Psalm 119:89; II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:20-21).
Our Ministries
Sunday School – Here at God’s Word Baptist Church, there is a great deal of emphasis placed on the Scriptures. It is in the Bible that the foundation for everything in life is given to us, and as such, it is imperative that we know what the word of God says. Therefore, during the ten o’clock hour on Sunday, we set aside a time of studying His word in an effort to learn more about our Lord and how to please Him in this life. We have a Sunday School class for all ages: children, teenagers, and adults. Each of these classes are dedicated to teaching the principles found in the Scriptures with the desired result of bringing us closer to our Saviour through the knowledge, understanding and wisdom contained therein (Proverbs 9:10).
Sunday Services – On Sunday, we have an eleven o’clock morning service and a six o’clock evening service. These services are evangelistic in nature, with many having applications to the Christian life, attempting to spurn growth in the Believers’ lives. Many times, the Sunday evening service will be more of a Bible study format, searching the Word for applicable direction and encouragement. Once a month, the morning and evening services are combined by a time of fellowship with a potluck style lunch between the services; this is done to bring about unity in the congregation and produce lasting friendships within the church.
Children’s Ministries – We have several ministries that are directed by the commandment found in Proverbs 22:6. Our desire is to support the parents in the Biblical growth of the children that attend our church. Therefore, we offer Junior Church programs for children from 2 years old to 12 years old, Vacation Bible School in the summertime, and, a mid-week Children’s Bible program that focuses on Bible verse memorization and on building Christian character traits found in the Bible.
Youth Ministries – In addition to a Sunday School class for the ages of 13 years old to 18 years old, that is specifically taught to support the foundation of Biblical instruction from the home, our youth attend a summer Bible camp, youth rallies, and conferences in the Northwest that have the purpose of Christian edification and instruction of youth to develop them into adults that have a desire to please Christ, not the world. At the same time, all of our youth are encouraged to participate in the other ministries of the church.
Men’s Ministries – To encourage the spiritual leader in the home, we have many activities directed toward the faithful teaching of the men in our church. Once every three months, we host a men’s prayer breakfast that includes a time of fellowship, instruction from God’s word, and prayer. In addition, we have a Father/Son Fishing Derby, a Manly Man Macho Mountain Mission (camp out), and a men’s retreat all with the purpose of providing edification, support, encouragement and Biblical teaching to ensure the men of the church are men after the heart of God.
Ladies’ Ministries – Christian women need spiritual teaching, edification and comfort, too, as the Bible specifies that they are to guide and keep the home. In order to develop godly women that have a desire to please God, we have a monthly Ladies Bible Study, a “Ladies Day Out/In”, a Mother/Daughter Luncheon, a Ladies Retreat, and a bi-annual Ladies Prayer Partner program. These ministries are designed for women of all ages, from youth to senior.
Our Pastor
A Word from Pastor Ken Stewart:
I can confidently say that my life has been a blessing of my God. At every turn in this journey of life, my Savior has directed my paths leading me into a way of His choosing. From a child, my parents instilled in me the Biblical knowledge of God through a Christian upbringing and education, resulting in me trusting Jesus Christ as my Savior at an early age. Since that time, God has placed me in churches, such as Treasure Valley Baptist Church in Boise, Idaho and Open Door Baptist Church in Lynnwood, Washington, where He continued to reveal His will for my life during my spiritual growth.
My family relocated to the Vancouver, Washington area in 2001, and God directed us to God’s Word Baptist Church in 2003; over a course of six years, God continued to grow me spiritually, preparing my heart for the ministry. Here, at God’s Word Baptist Church, God has again blessed me with friendships that have edified and encouraged my family and me, and that have brought us closer to the Lord through Godly fellowship. We now reside in Ridgefield, WA, and look forward to seeing God use us to minister to the people of this beautiful city.
God has also tremendously blessed me with my wife, Amy; she has, and continues to be, a rich comfort to me since we met in 1995 and a wonderful helpmeet to me in all things since our marriage in 1999. In addition, God has bestowed upon us two beautiful daughters, Abigail and Emma, who are a wonderful joy to our hearts.
As God continues to bless this church by developing it into a church that has a desire to please Him, I have a great sense of excitement and anticipation, desiring to see God add to the congregation and continue to grow those already in attendance. My constant prayer is that we, as Christian brothers and sisters, fellow soldiers and co-laborers, will be a witness to our community and the world, pointing the lost to our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Through His Faithfulness,
Pastor Kenneth Stewart
